This has nothing to do with the book but with Steve Jobs' Stanford speech. He told you few stories, I will do the same.
The first story is about connecting the dots.
Like him i too wasnt interested in whatever was taught in college. So I bunked classes and did what i found interesting i.e. play cricket, play quake. It was great. Those frags, scoring flags, holy shits everything. those cricket fights, that passion to prevent every run scored. But looking back now I think it was the stupidest thing i ever did. I completely wasted those 4 years doing something that's never gonna do any good to me in future. So though Steve Jobs says it difficult to connect dots looking forward, i would say its neccessary to connect dots looking forward. You can connect dots looking backward only if you drop out of college and still study. But according to me if you are bunking college , studies is the last thing on your mind ;).
His second story was about "Love and Loss".
He found early what he loved doing, I havent. I even dont know what I love doing( May be just sitting on a sofa watching cricket on a giant 50" TV with a McDonals burger in hand and a alrge Coke..yeah that might be it). Anyways i never knew what i wanted to do, but certainly knew what i didnt want to do. Waking up early, working late, lots of meetings and formal attire was certainly on my list. And guess what...I am doing all that and for 2 years now. So again it goes back to the first story, If I would have not wasted those 4 years...

Any Steve Jobs lovers dont take me wrong, I am not trying to make fun of what he said. That was one of the most inspriring speeches you will ever hear. And he is the greatest innovator world has seen, its just some people dont have the courage to follow their heart and throughout their lives will blame it on luck for what they are doing.
Neither is this blog written out of frustation, I am fairly happy with my life...but its certainly not what I love doing :D.
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."-Steve Jobs

"May be just sitting on a sofa watching cricket on a giant 50" TV with a McDonals burger in hand and a alrge Coke" and then running a marathon on the treadmill :P
bhai marathon to mein sapne mein bhi nahi daud sakta...threadmilll to badi baat hai :P
but i didn't could not relate that what difference does those four years made on the work you are doing presently. I mean you wrote that if u hadn't "wasted" your four years..things could have been different..as in how?? I can understand this if this is for me!! but for you? i don't think so!!
I definitely do not agree that you wasted the four years. What ever you are today is made up of those tit bits. Every frag, every silly cricket fight is embedded in your personal being...and may be gives you a reason to smile today....
And those four years have landed you in a position to follow your dream today.. :)
I should say that I wasted my four years coz I never played Quake :P...n can never do that now with the same people, same place, same environment :D
Good one. I loved the speech too but had my own similar(well, nothing to do with quake/college)doubts around how one goes about finding what you love.
The search will go on. Waise one more burger for thought. Not sure if people search till they find what they love or till they tire and make what they have, what they love :)
